Why is this site so crappysimple?
The site is not the product.
Uh, well, marketing is a thing, right? Anyways, what is your the product then?
A UNIX/Linux course.
What’s UNIX or Linux?
UNIX is a family of operating systems, Linux is one of them. 1
So you call a bunch of Powerpoint slides about operating systems a product?
No, I’d call that a bunch of Powerpoint slides about operating systems.
Phew, then what is the product?
The product is an educational software that comes pre-installed on a Linux virtual machine. On your local computer, you run the virtual machine (which is basically a computer in the computer) and then take part in one or more courses. This means you automatically use Linux from day one.
I don’t understand.
This thing is different from anything you’ve seen before. There is no distinction between course material and course subject: Following the course is the same as using UNIX or Linux. The course is completely hands-on. Once you have installed and launched the virtual machine, you access the course by using the machine.
Head over to the downloads page for further instructions.
I never used Linux or anything similar. Is this for me?
Sure! The system is designed with an absolute beginner in mind. You’re not expected to know anything upfront.
I’ve been using UNIX systems for <insert-number-here> years. Is this for me?
Sure! You will be intrigued by the system itself. Take the free course to find out how the tutor is designed. You might be interested in the other courses after all.
Okay, fair enough. What does it look like?
Here are some visuals.
Looks interesting, what do people say?
Feedback is found here.
How long does it take?
That’s entirely up to you. Each lesson will takey between 5 to 30 minutes depending on your own pace & curiosity. You can pause the tutor at any time. There are no time constraints.
I’m sold! Where can I start?
Here.
If you disagree, you already know enough to understand that it’s impossible to have a satisfying answer within a couple of words. 🤷 ↩︎
